Between May 2003 & 2007 Mike was Convenor of the Environment Committee.
He has also twice been Vice Convenor of the Development Control Committee during his time on the Council, having continuously served on that Committee from May 1999 to his resignation therefrom on 12th May 2008. In November 2008, Mike resigned from the Liberal Democrat Group on the Council over the party’s strategy within the ruling administration and due to differences with colleagues over community planning issues in his ward. Since re-election for a fourth term in May 2012, as an independent, Mike is part of the opposition groups on the council.
Mike was first elected to the Council as the member for Kinross-shire in May 1999, being re-elected twice since in May 2003 & 2007. He is 67 years of age, married with one son, who is a graduate of Heriot-Watt University (currently on a research project at Strathclyde University into renewable energy).
His family is from Staffordshire, where they own a hill farm and stone quarry on the edge of the Peak District. He has lived in Scotland since 1972, having moved from the borders to Kinross-shire in 1980, where he commenced and still practises as an accountant/tax consultant.
Outwith business and council/community duties, his interests include gardening, mountaineering (20 Munros still to complete), soccer, folk music and poetry. He highlights the environment, farming, planning and roads & footpaths as areas of most involvement and importance in his Ward.
